De Europese Unie heeft besloten dat vanaf 2030 e-invoicing voor alle bedrijven verplicht wordt. Een ingrijpende verandering die nu al in verschillende landen speelt. In Belgi\u00eb is het vanaf 1 januari 2026 al verplicht, terwijl in Nederland momenteel alleen overheidsinstanties ermee werken. Maar uiteindelijk gaat deze verandering ook hier alle bedrijven raken.
In deze blog legt Silvester Jansen, consultant bij Eqeep, uit wat e-invoicing precies inhoudt, welke voordelen het biedt en hoe je je bedrijf kunt voorbereiden op deze digitale factuurrevolutie.<\/p>
Tot nu toe was er geen vaste manier om facturen te maken. Bedrijven verstuurden facturen in verschillende formaten (PDF\u2019s, Word-documenten) via diverse kanalen (post, e-mail, online portalen). Deze facturen moesten vervolgens vaak handmatig worden verwerkt in boekhoudsystemen. Er bestonden nauwelijks regels voor structuur en inhoud, wat leidde tot ineffici\u00ebntie en fouten.<\/p>
E-invoicing changes this fundamentally. It is a fully automated process in which invoices are created, sent, received, and processed in a standardized format (such as UBL or the European EN16931) via secure networks. The key difference between e-invoicing and traditional digital invoicing is that no manual intervention is required — invoice data is exchanged directly between systems.<\/p>
For governments, e-invoicing offers major advantages — everything becomes traceable, making tax audits simpler. But as a business, you’ll also benefit significantly.<\/p>
E-invoicing enables much faster invoice processing. Because everything arrives in a standardized format, manual work is drastically reduced. This can save €4 to €8 per invoice, which for medium and large companies can add up to thousands of euros per year. It also improves cash flow by speeding up invoice processing and payments.<\/p>
Naast deze directe kostenbesparing zorgt e-invoicing voor snellere inzichtelijkheid van je financi\u00eble gegevens. In een tijd waarin cybersecurity steeds belangrijker wordt, biedt e-invoicing bovendien extra beveiliging door de standaardisatie van datastromen.<\/p>
De ontwikkelingen staan niet stil. Voor de komende jaren worden verschillende trends verwacht:<\/p>
Naturally, the transition to e-invoicing also comes with challenges. Implementation must take place via so-called third parties — external platforms that act as intermediaries between you and your suppliers or customers. This process can take six weeks to three months and involves costs.<\/p>
For smaller companies with a limited number of invoices, these implementation costs may be a relatively large investment. For larger organizations, however, they are outweighed by the long-term benefits and savings. Other challenges include technical readiness and resistance to change within the organization.<\/p>
In Europa wordt e-invoicing steeds vaker verplicht gesteld als onderdeel van ViDA (VAT in the Digital Age<\/a>) — an initiative aimed at preventing VAT fraud and reducing administrative burdens. In the Netherlands, e-invoicing is already mandatory for B2G (B2G<\/a>), en vanaf 2030 wordt het ook verplicht voor grensoverschrijdende transacties binnen de EU. Een gefaseerde invoering voor binnenlandse facturen wordt verwacht.<\/p> Volgens Storecove<\/a>, the Netherlands is likely to follow the European guidelines and implement e-invoicing gradually.
