Als ERP Finance Consultant bij Eqeep helpt Silvester Jansen organisaties om hun financiële processen te optimaliseren en meer grip te krijgen op hun data. De veelzijdigheid van zijn functie en de projectmatige aanpak zorgen ervoor dat zijn werk boeiend blijft. In deze blog deelt Silvester hoe hij bij Eqeep terechtkwam, hoe zijn rol hem blijft uitdagen en wat zijn ambities zijn. Daarnaast vertelt hij hoe hij nieuwe energie opdoet als hij niet aan het werk is.

Op zoek naar meer afwisseling

Tijdens mijn studie Finance & Control in Utrecht heb ik een minor International Business gevolgd in Helsinki. Daarnaast heb ik nog kort in Manchester gewoond om mijn Engels te verbeteren. Na mijn studie ben ik als projectcontroller aan de slag gegaan bij een grote telecomdienstverlener. Daar heb ik bijna vijf jaar gewerkt, maar na een tijdje had ik door dat ik aan een andere uitdaging toe was. Een oud-collega van mij stapte in 2022 over naar Eqeep en vertelde daar enthousiast over, zodat ik besloot om ook eens met hen in gesprek te gaan. Inmiddels werk ik anderhalf jaar bij Eqeep, en met veel plezier. In het begin was het vooral veel leren en stap voor stap de praktijk induiken. Op het ogenblik werk ik aan meerdere klantopdrachten. Vooral de afwisseling in projecten en klanten maakt het voor mij erg boeiend.

Ruimte voor persoonlijk contact

With around 40 employees, you could call Eqeep a relatively small company, a big difference from the huge organisation where I worked before. At Eqeep, there is no island culture. I really like that. Everyone knows each other, and the atmosphere is open and direct. We speak to each other easily – even when we disagree – and there is not that constant pressure to defend your own territory, as you see in larger companies. At Eqeep, we are a close team, even outside work. Sometimes we go for sports with a group of colleagues or a barbecue is organised. In short, at Eqeep there is a lot of room for personal contact.

Ambities

I am currently specialising further within finance. Before this, I was more broadly oriented, more of an all-rounder. Here, I am also experience the benefits of my analytical skills. For now, I want to develop further as a consultant so that I can support different companies. In the longer term, I think it would be interesting to work more for multinationals. Especially the cross-border aspect attracts me in that: getting to know companies with different cultures and regulations. On one of my projects, I work with someone who has been travelling all over the world for 40 years, from South America to Asia. Fascinating to hear what he encounters in his work there. I find the cultural differences in communication and cooperation particularly intriguing. I started to study the Spanish language and culture. I do that outside work, but my knowledge of this world language may come in handy later in my work. Because our work is not only very analytical and substantive but also requires good communication, you can learn a lot from such multicultural encounters. Doing a lot, experiencing a lot and profiting from it, that’s how I see it for the future.

Hoofd leeg maken

Besides my work, I like to do sports. Sports help me clear my head after a day at the office. Running in nature gives me peace of mind and recharges me for work. On weekends, I often go out with friends to discover new places. The other day, for example, I was in Mechelen in Belgium. It is not exactly the most well-known tourist attraction, but it is a beautiful city with a rich history. It is remarkable how that place appeals to people from all over the world. I also love going to the beach or to my parents’ cottage in the south of the country. A bit away from the hustle and bustle of the city and more into nature.
