If you have just graduated, you are at the beginning of an exciting journey. But how do you take that first step? For Alexander Deman, a trainee in Eqeep’s Young Talent Program, the answer was clear: a chance to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic environment while learning new technologies. In this blog, he shares his insights.

Waarom het Young Talent Program van Eqeep?

Afgelopen zomer ben ik afgestudeerd aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam in Business Administration met een focus op business-analytics. Na mijn afstuderen was ik op zoek naar werk, of een andere manier om werkervaring op te doen. Via een recruiter kwam ik terecht bij het Eqeep’s Young Talent Program. Dat paste perfect bij wat ik zocht. Zeven maanden aan de slag, iets totaal nieuws leren, kennismaken met nieuwe technologieën en werken in een professionele omgeving. Precies wat ik nodig had om een goede start te maken. Zo ben ik begonnen als Process Mining consultant trainee bij Deep Value, een partnerbedrijf van Eqeep.

Praktische inzichten: van theorie naar praktijk

Ik heb tot nu toe vooral veel praktische dingen geleerd. Tijdens een studie leer je wel veel theorie, maar je mist vaak die connectie met de praktijk. Als Process Mining consultant trainee maak ik kennis met veel bedrijfsprocessen. Hoe werkt procurement? Hoe verloopt het procure-to-pay-proces? Hoe regelen bedrijven hun invoicing, accounting of order-to-cash? Dat geeft me enorm veel inzicht in hoe bedrijven daadwerkelijk functioneren. Voorheen had ik alleen een theoretisch idee van hoe die processen zouden werken. Nu weet ik dat elk bedrijf het weer op z’n eigen manier doet. Dat maakt me nieuwsgierig. Waarom kiezen ze daarvoor? Wat betekent dat? Dat inzicht is heel waardevol.

Begeleiding van ervaren professionals

Ik werk nauw samen met ervaren consultants en dat geeft me veel inzicht. Als ik vragen heb, krijg ik praktische antwoorden die ze ondersteunen met voorbeelden uit hun eigen ervaring. Ze delen bijvoorbeeld inzichten uit een project waaraan ze zelf hebben gewerkt, omdat dat echt praktijksituaties zijn, zijn ze tastbaar en superleerzaam. Het is die combinatie van praktijkvoorbeelden en de persoonlijke begeleiding die dit traineeship uniek maakt.

Veilige omgeving

Beforehand, I didn’t know exactly what to expect, but I have been positively surprised by the atmosphere here. It’s relaxed and people take the time for you. They stop for a chat, ask how you are doing and if you have any questions, they are always willing to help you. That feels nice. I can learn here without immediately feeling the pressure to perform. That gives a lot of room to really get the most out of this traineeship.

What also helps is that there are three other trainees. Anne, Tayyip and Emmanuel work in completely different fields, they are involved in ERP consulting. That’s very different from Process Mining. But despite that, we still have that shared experience. We are all new, getting to know the people and the organizations and are at the beginning of our careers. That shared experience creates a bond. You’re not the only one who asks a lot of questions or is sometimes unsure. That makes it a lot easier and more fun.

De toekomst: klaar voor de volgende stap

If all goes well, I would like to stay at Deep Value after the traineeship. By then I’ll know the company, the clients and the colleagues. As a junior consultant, that gives you just that little bit more self-confidence. So why should I look any further? Of course the skills I learn here are also applicable in other positions in other companies, but for now I feel right at home at Deep Value.
