Operational intelligence

Energy operators run on data spread across ERP, EAM, field service and SCADA. Operational Intelligence combines those sources into one real-time picture per asset—from turbine to pump.

Operational Intelligence combines EAM, FSM and SCADA into one digital asset teams can monitor in real time.

Why decisions lag behind the operation

Energy and resources teams make dozens of asset decisions every day. Most still depend on reports that arrived too late, signals from too many systems, or AI pilots that never connected to the work order queue. The tabs below show the three patterns we see most often—and how Operational Intelligence changes the decision path.

Leaders act on last month, not this morning

Monthly KPI packs and batch reports still drive many maintenance and operations meetings. By the time they land, crews have rerouted work, parts have moved and asset condition has already shifted. The meeting reviews history while the operation is solving today’s problem elsewhere.

Operational Intelligence feeds live work orders, meter readings and alarm history into one view per asset. Planners see what changed overnight and can reprioritise before the morning stand-up—not after the week is lost.

More data, fewer decisions

SCADA streams, sensor feeds, spreadsheets and ERP extracts each tell part of the story. Without a shared asset record, teams spend hours reconciling versions instead of deciding what to do next. The planner’s job becomes data janitor, not decision maker.

Surveillance rules and anomaly detection rank exceptions by impact and route them to the right owner. Noise stays in the system; planners focus on the handful of signals that need a decision today.

AI talk outruns AI value

Predictive models fail quietly when asset hierarchies, BOMs or work-order history are incomplete. The algorithm runs; the recommendation is not defensible because nobody trusts the underlying record. Pilots stall in proof-of-concept while operations keeps working around the gaps.

Eqeep starts Operational Intelligence at master data and work-order quality—then layers Industrial AI where planners already trust the record. Value shows up in fewer false alarms and faster follow-through, not another dashboard layer.

One digital asset, fed by every system

Maintenance history sits in IFS Enterprise Asset Management, usage forecasts come out of IFS Field Service Management, and live readings stream in from SCADA and design systems. Operational Intelligence, part of the Industrial AI portfolio, merges those feeds into one digital asset per physical asset: a single live picture of condition, load and maintenance status. For asset managers and control room teams that changes the work itself. Monitoring, maintaining and adjusting happen on today’s readings, not on last month’s report.

Automated surveillance: rules you define yourself

Surveillance rules in Operational Intelligence are configured drag-and-drop, by the people who know the assets. An example IFS showed recently: set a threshold of 38 kW on a pump. The moment power draw crosses that line, the platform registers an asset event and automatically creates an anomaly or fault report in the asset management system. The follow-up job exists before anyone has opened a notification. For operations teams that turns monitoring from watching dashboards into a system that files its own work.

Runs alongside the EAM or ERP you already have

Operational Intelligence does not require an IFS environment to start: it runs standalone next to an existing EAM or ERP from another vendor, on the data those systems already produce. The combination with IFS EAM makes it stronger, because automatically created fault reports land straight in the same maintenance flow, and IFS Asset Lifecycle Management adds design and investment context across the asset’s life. In the IFS figures for energy and resources we work with, operational intelligence is linked to around 30% less unplanned downtime. In our projects the difference comes from how fast an asset event becomes a planned job.

Questions before building operational intelligence

Operational intelligence works when system signals become work people can trust and act on.

It is the connection between asset, ERP, SCADA and field data so teams see the same digital asset and can act on exceptions earlier.

Industrial AI can detect exceptions, forecast risk and recommend the next action. People still decide priority, timing and accepted risk.

Not necessarily. Operational intelligence can run alongside the EAM or ERP already in place and create a clearer decision layer around it.
